Searching the Status of the Case with FIR Number

If you want to search the status of your case then there are different modes for searching the case status. But searching the case status with FIR number is unique. Because for every FIR there is a distinct number assigned to the FIR number in a given year. Therefore while searching the case status with FIR Number you must know the FIR Number, date of registration of FIR, name of Police Station, and district in which the police station is situated.

If you know the above details then you can easily find the status of your case by filling in the requisite details on the official website of the Courts. The government of India has started the eCourts.gov.in website for searching the case status for entire districts and taluka courts in India.

Procedure for Searching Case Status with FIR Number on eCourts Website

1. Go to the official website www.ecourts.gov.in

2. Click on the link for District Court Services

3 Click on the Case Status menu

4. Select State, District & Court Complex

5. Click on the FIR

6. Then Select Police Station, Enter FIR Number & Year of FIR

7. Select the status of the case i.e. Pending, Disposed or Both

8. Enter the Captcha

9. Click on the Go Button

Now you will see the status of the case related to FIR details entered above. If you select the pending then only pending cases related to FIR will be shown. If you selected Disposed then cases that have been disposed of will be shown. When you select Both then both pending cases as well as disposed of cases will be shown.

Searching the Case Status by FIR Number on the Punjab & Haryana High Court Website:

Punjab and Haryana High Court is situated in Chandigarh. Punjab and Haryana High Court is the High Court for the State of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh Union Territory. Therefore case status of the FIR lodged in the State of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh can be checked from the official website of Punjab and Haryana High Court Chandigarh.

Procedure for Searching the Case Status by FIR Number on Punjab & Haryana High Court Website

1. Visit the Official website of Punjab & Haryana High Court (www.phhc.gov.in) for case details

2. Click on FIR No. given in the left column under Case Search

3. Select the District where FIR is registered

4. Enter the FIR number

5. Hit the Search Button

You will be shown all the cases connected with the FIR details entered above. Now if you click on the Case Number shown on the left then you can get further details of the case connected with FIR. You can also download the orders and judgment of your case connected with FIR.

Other Services offered on the Punjab and Haryana High Court website include Display Board, Mentioning Request, Check Status, etc. All the services which you can access from the Punjab & Haryana High Court website are as under:

Display Board: When you click on the Display Board link given at the top of the website then you can see the status of cases in different courts in Punjab & Haryana High Court Chandigarh. Service of display board can be accessed only when courts are working. During Holiday you will not see any activity or status of a case on the Display Board.

Mentioning Request: When you click on the mentioning request you will find that this link is currently not active. This service was started during the Covid-19 pandemic which allowed online mentioning of cases. Currently, only physical mentioning of cases is entertained.

Diary Number: When a case is filed in the Punjab & Haryana High Court, Chandigarh. Then a diary number is allocated to each case filed in the registry. You can track the status of your case with a diary number. The case number is allotted if there is no effect in the case i.e. Case has been presented in the form as required by Punjab and Haryana High Court Rules and Orders Volume-V. If there is any defect in the case then an objection will be raised by the registry and after the removal of the defect in the case, the case will be registered and the case number will be assigned by Punjab & Haryana High Court Registry. There are two modes of searching the case with the diary number which is i.e. By entering the diary number and name of the advocate and applicant.

Procedure for the Searching case with Diary Number:

Click on the Diary Number given in the left menu on the official website (www.phhc.gov.in)

Enter Diary Number

Click on the “Search Case” button

You will be displayed the status of your case with the diary number.

You can also check the case status by entering the Advocate name, applicant name, and case status i.e. Pending, Registered, or Objection, and then hitting the Search Case button to view the case status.

Case Search by Caveat Number: In civil cases, a party anticipating the filing of the case can file a caveat application and as and when the opposite party files a case then the party is intimated. You can search the case status by entering the caveat number provided by the registry at the time of filing the caveat application.

Certified Copy/Inspection

An advocate or party in person can apply for a certified copy or inspection of the case file. Now you can file an online application to avail of the facility for certified copy and inspection of file and you can check the status of the same on the website of Punjab & Haryana High Court, Chandigarh. There are four services under this head which are as under:

  1. Copy Petition: You can search the Copy Petition by entering the Petition Number or Applicant Name, Date Range, Case Type, and case year and then hitting the Search Case button. All the details will be displayed on the website.
  2. Inspection Request: If you have applied for an inspection of the case file then you can check the status of the inspection application by entering the inspection number or entering the applicant details, dates, case type, and case year.
  3. Downloading Uncertified Copy: You can download the uncertified copy by entering the petition number.
  4. Apply eCopy/Inspection online: Now you can apply online for inspection and for availing of the certified copy. When you click on the “Apply eCopy/Inspection Online” then you will be required to register and apply for online eCopy or inspection.

Judgment Search

You can search and download a copy of the judgment from the official website of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Website. There are five modes of searching the judgment which is as under:

Judgment by Case No. : You can download the copy of the judgment by entering the details of your case number i.e. You will have to select the case type, enter the case number and select the case year to download the copy of the judgment.

Judgment by Judge Wise: You can search the judgment by Judge wise also. For downloading the judgment of a case you need to select the date range, select the name of the Judge, Party Name, specific text in the judgment if any, case type, case year, and whether reportable or not, and then hit the Search Case button to view the list of judgments by Judge name wise.

Free Text Search: Free Text Search allow you to search the judgment by selecting the date range. You can refine your search by entering the name of the petitioner, respondent, case type, and year. You can enter any text with which you want to search the judgment.

Full Bench Referred Cases: You can view and download the list of Full Bench judgments. For searching Full Bench judgments you need to select the date range and then for refining your search you can enter party name, text, case type, and case year to view the list of full bench judgments by Punjab & and Haryana High Court Chandigarh.

Division Bench Referred Cases: Same as in the case of full bench judgment you can also view the Division Bench referred judgments by entering the details and hitting the Search Case button. To view the complete list you can click on the View Complete List button and view the entire list of judgments.

Cause Lists: This section is useful for advocates. But parties appearing in person also can use this service. Cause lists contain the details of cases listed in the given cause list. There are mainly three cause lists i.e. Urgent Cause List, Ordinary Cause List, and Regular Cause List. Apart from these cause lists, there are supplementary cause lists, Lok Adalat Cause lists, and Mediation Cause lists which can be searched under the Cause List head.
